Hill Battles Tight Truck to earn Top-Fifteen Finish at Gateway

Race Highlights:

• The Drivin’ For Linemen 200 marked the 8th race of the 2017 NASCAR Camping World Truck season and fifth race for Austin Hill.
• Hill started 15th and fought an incredibly tight truck throughout the entire race, ultimately coming home 14th.
• This was Hill’s first career NCWTS start at the Madison, Ill. facility.
• John Hunter Nemecheck earned the victory and was followed to the finish line by Chase Briscoe, Johnny Sauter, Matt Crafton and Grant Enfinger.
• Hill’s next scheduled event is at Kentucky Speedway on Thursday, July 6th. The race will broadcast live on FoxSports1.

Hill Battles Tight Truck to earn Top-Fifteen Finish at Gateway

Austin Hill and the No. 02 Young’s Motorsports team started the Drivin’ For Linemen 200 in the 15th position and almost immediately the NASCAR Next alumnus reported the truck as a “eight tight all around the track.” Using both caution periods ending each of the first two segments, crew chief Bruce Cook made major adjustments to Hill’s Ford F150, including trackbar, wedge and air pressure. Continuing to wrestle his unresponsive truck, Hill battled through lapped traffic, enroot to a 14th place finish, in his career first start at Gateway Motorsports Park. Shortly after the conclusion of the event, the Young’s Motorsports team was able to diagnose the unresponsive tight condition as a front spring that had moved from its stationary perched location.

“One of these days we will catch some luck on our side and our team and equipment will shine through. We unloaded with a decent amount of speed and continued to work on our long race runs, since I had never race here. Once the green flag waved, maybe halfway into the first segment run, the truck became totally unresponsive and ridiculously tight. We fought that the rest of the race and nothing seemed to change the handling. After the race the guys quickly found the issue, as a spring had moved in the front end. Its unfortunate because we give 110% for each of the races we run and lady luck has not been on our side as of late.”

About Austin Hill

Austin Hill, a Winston, Ga. native, is driven to become the next big name in NASCAR. The 23-year-old is driving a partial schedule in the 2017 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, in a newly formed partnership with Young’s Motorsports, in the No. 02 Ford F-150. Hill successfully graduated, after being a two-year member of NASCAR Next, a program designed to cultivate and promote the sports’ next generation of superstars. Hill started his racing career at the age of six in Quarter Midgets and won the 2002 Quarter Midget championship at his home track in Cumming, G.A. before moving on to excel in the Bandolero, Legends Series and Pro Late Model Series. While in the NASCAR Next program, Hill secured five wins and one pole award in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, along with 13 top-five, 24 top-10 finishes.
