Hill Doubles Down with Double Duty in Vegas

September 23, 2020

Double Down … Austin Hill will double down at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) with his fourth double-duty weekend of the 2020 season. The driver of the No. 61 Weins Canada Toyota Supra is beginning a stretch of competition in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) that includes plans to run in five-straight events beginning on Saturday at LVMS. While Hill is chasing his second-career victory in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series in “Sin City” this weekend, he’ll look to improve upon his best-career NXS result of ninth.

Keep Building … Hill and the HRE team led by crew chief Scott Zipadelli look to continue their NXS progression after posting the organization’s best outing in the series in their most recent appearance. Hill’s debut at Darlington Raceway yielded a ninth-place result and provided a direction for the No. 61 team to build on. The Winston, Ga. native previously posted a ninth-place finish in his NXS debut at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2019 and looks to sweep the weekend’s Gander Trucks and NXS events in his Weins Canada Toyotas.

Sin City History … Saturday’s 300-mile event will mark Hill’s sixth career NXS start, but his first at LVMS. He has five prior Gander Truck starts in Las Vegas, including a playoff victory last September. Hill tallied a third-place finish in February this season and has two top-five and three top-10 finishes in those five Gander Truck appearances.

Chassis Selection … Zipadelli and the Weins Canada team have prepared chassis No. 004 for Hill’s first LVMS NXS start. This will be the first event in which Hill has driven this Toyota Supra, as it is a new addition to the HRE fleet.

Tune In … Hill’s fifth NXS start of the season will be carried live on NBCSN at 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET with Countdown to Green. Austin Hill Quote:

On returning to NXS competition with double duty at Las Vegas:

“I’m looking forward to being back in the Xfinity car. Any time you can get more laps it helps you as a driver, and whenever you run double duty, it’s a big advantage to have laps on the track. Just like the Xfinity race helped us at Darlington with the truck, I think we’ll have some good information from the truck race to use with our Weins Canada Supra on Saturday. Having our truck team at the track with the Xfinity car helps us too just because we have so much experience working together. The entire shop at HRE had a hand in putting this Weins Canada Supra together. It’s a new car for our program, so I can’t wait to see what we have. We made huge improvements to our Supra throughout the day at Darlington, so I’m excited to see what we can do in Vegas on Saturday.”
